State Dep.’s likeability

State Department bureau spent $630,000 on Facebook ‘likes’

State Department officials spent $630,000 to get more Facebook “likes,” prompting employees to complain to a government watchdog that the bureau was “buying fans” in social media, the agency’s inspector general says.

The department’s Bureau of International Information Programs spent the money to increase its “likes” count between 2011 and March 2013.

“Many in the bureau criticize the advertising campaigns as ‘buying fans’ who may have once clicked on an ad or ‘liked’ a photo but have no real interest in the topic and have never engaged further,” the inspector general reported.

The spending increased the bureau’s English-language Facebook page likes from 100,000 to more than 2 million and to 450,000 on Facebook’s foreign-language pages.

Here is a real “outside the box” thought, what if they didn’t have baggage like Benghazi hanging around their necks? Maybe if the Secretary was not running around blaming a terrorist attack on some unknown movie, their cred and likeability on issues would have improved? But I guess that is ridiculous, much easier to spend money trying to get people’s approval for their perspective. Now that’s a real plan.

And it’s a good thing our illustrious government is good at keeping IGs so busy.
But then the IGs’ cred and likeability is not much better than State’s.

CBS reports: (Kerry sets sail)

Secretary of State Kerry sailed his boat, the “Isabel,” on Nantucket Sound in Massachusetts, Wed., July 3, 2013. / CBS

As regime change was unfolding in Egypt, Secretary of State John Kerry spent time on his boat Wednesday afternoon in Nantucket Sound, the State Department acknowledged to CBS News on Friday, after repeatedly denying that Kerry was aboard any boat.

“While he was briefly on his boat on Wednesday, Secretary Kerry worked around the clock all day including participating in the President’s meeting with his national security council,” said State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, naming a series of Egyptian and international officials Kerry had spoken with on Wednesday.

Psaki’s acknowledgment marked a stark reversal from previous denials that Kerry was on any boat whatsoever.

A “CBS This Morning” producer spotted Kerry on his boat Wednesday afternoon on Nantucket, where Kerry has a vacation home. When “CBS This Morning” senior producer Mosheh Oinounou tweeted about the sighting, Psaki issued a denial, calling the tweet “completely inaccurate” and said Kerry has been “working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in Egypt.”

Also on Wednesday afternoon, the White House released a photo of the president and his national security team meeting in the situation Room. Kerry was not present in the photo, but his office said he did participate in the meeting via a secure phone line. /…

So as Kerry is “phoning it in” in response to Egypt’s coup, they have the audacity to wonder about Facebook likes. Sounds more like the “good ship lollipop.” No word yet how “Isabel” feels about it — his boat.

PS: on the plus side, Kerry and team are getting this denial-lie-thing down quick.

Good post,Bull. That must be the boat the asshole still owes $500,000 in taxes on to Massachusetts, since the prick docks in Rhode Island to AVOID the tax. What an asshole. That tub looks like a GREAT spot for an errant torpedo.

    • Davetherave says:

I concur with my buddy clyde that sail boat would be a great opportunity to test our new torpedo. Wish the bastard would sail over into Russian waters, because Putin has so much respect (major sarcasm) for our non-man like pres and his pansy ass lying admin.

Clyde, yep that be it, her, Isabel… whatever you call it. Apparently hurricane Sandy did no damage. And we the people pretty much foot his bill anyway . He has a lot in common with Teddy. Let’s see him be a real man and run it up the coast toward Iran.

Good article Bull. Kerry has been on a damn sail boat trip this entire time, so once more we are covered in bull shit. And the FB likes remind me of the old pres slogan “a chicken on everyone’s table” during the depression. Kerry was born a traitor, played out his role as a traitor over Nam and of course he’s still a traitor or Barry wouldn’t have appointed him. His homo boss takes a early bedtime during Benghazi to be refreshed for the next day campaign trip and Kerry sails around the world in 80 days to avoid all their craziness currently being exposed.

And OMG does he have plenty of money to blow just off his wives family catchup sales! Oops…sorry…he doesn’t have to touch those multimillion dollars. He’s blowing our money. There was a time when I thought fat ass, no class Heinz would have been the worst first lady, but leave it up to the Traitor Party to find Moochelle as an even worse First Bitch. With the Sumbitch and the First Bitch calling all the shots I feel like I live in the hood!!

    • bullright says:

Dave, what can I say? He has no shame. He sets himself with a rich bitch and then lives off taxpayers. He couldn’t care less about the American people. And he is in the continuity line of the presidency? It does feel like the hood, or in Chicago.

    • bullright says:

Dave, just like the rest of this regime, when “surf’s up” get out their way.

  3. Remember Osama bin Laden’s videotaped comments from November 2001? Among them, he famously said these words: “When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse.”

Would a “strong horse” pay $630G to be liked?? In fact, would a strong horse really even give much of a crap if it’s liked??

The theme song of this State Dept and Obama’s administration should be “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”

(BTW, have you ever heard William Shatner’s recording of that song? Here it is.)

    • bullright says:

Jeff, hey good point. That must make way too much sense for them to get. I’d like to see an opinion poll but they would probably never put one up. I like the strong horse metaphor. That money didn’t make them any stronger..

Great article. Ha, what a travesty to spend tax dollars on such crap. The lie about Kerry is not surprising since everything is a lie coming from this administration. Was Kerry constantly in touch with the meeting in his kayak? Ha, doubt it. These people insult our intelligence every day. Of course, Kerry being SOS is an insult to begin with being he’s been a traitor all these years.

    • bullright says:

Pepp, yea par for their golf course. The wind surfing extraordinaire. And it was a CBS reporter that nailed him. Maybe CBS better start checking their phone lines. They might end up on Obama’s list of espionage suspects.
