Dick Durbin: Congress Should Decide Who Qualifies For First Amendment Freedoms

This is why you should never believe “liberals'” mantra, and why they are so dangerous.

In addition to trying to redefine the Second Amendment as not protecting anyone’s right to bear arms, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin (pictured) is now excited about how to redefine the First Amendment.

As with guns, Durbin is trying to limit constitutional freedoms so that they cannot be used by people of whom he disapproves. In an opinion essay published in the Chicago Sun Times last week, Durbin argued it was “time to say who’s a real reporter,” so that no one else can be given First Amendment protections.

“Is each of Twitter’s 141 million users in the United States a journalist? How about the 164 million Facebook users? What about bloggers, people posting on Instagram, or users of online message boards like Reddit?” Durbin asked.

Ostensibly, Durbin’s motive seems to be about extending additional freedoms sometimes called “shield laws” which place some limitations on courts…

FYI:”Sen. Dick Durbin: It’s time to say who’s a real reporter

It’s time to say…who is a real threat to the Republic!

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Bull, once again we see the Alinskyites attempting to shut down speech except for the message they want out. They don’t want people to hear any opposing speech. Durbin is a loon to say the least and dangerous on top of it. He swore to uphold the Constitution not change it at his whim.

Pepp, I keep thinking fox guarding the hen house. The radicals rule. They apply the same tactics to every issue. It should be obvious….but then I see they still manage to punch their ticket back to Washington.

Every time they say they are going to save something, they are bent on destroying it. When they want to preserve and defend something, it’s an abortion. And he illustrates perfectly the problem with an evolving, living/breathing Constitution. Elitist that he is — as long as no one steps on his speech or his right to a seat in the Senate to pontificate it.

Yep the radicals run everything now, including what we can or can’t say.

Destruction is their middle name and doing a darn good job of destroying every principle this country stands for.

We should call our congressmen and ask that these little elite kings be impeached when they obviously do not defend our Constitution which they vow to defend.

I’m so sick of these politicians.

    Time to impeach.
    CALL!

Thanks for the comment. I’m with you, time to fire up the impeachment machine. At least if we are doing that it would slow their “progress” down a little. (progress– a word they totally destroyed.)

Right: and I’m sick of trying to treat the symptoms instead of the disease.

Bull, like you I am so weary of the symptoms and getting no cure. I’d like to see the King kicked out, but it’s never going to happen. At least I can’t see it ever happen the way Congress dodges it all the time. They are complicit in this lawlessness. And they are useless.

Pepp, so right, it is lawlessness. Some are just more lawless than others but just the same. Durbin makes my skin crawl, along with Schumer. Obama is the pinnacle at present and weary sums it up.

Bull, I so agree with you about Durbin and Schumer. They are both despicable. I’ll never forget that Durbin said about our soldiers and Schumer said about us, “being chattering masses”. Just who made him Duke or Prince? Then there is always the horror of the Piglosi and what comes of out her stupid mouth. Like the tea party is AstroTurf. They take their cues in insulting Americans just like the King Obama.

      tannngl,

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve written and called my republican reps to impeach this lawless King, and I get letters back telling “He, the King” has done nothing wrong. I’ve signed so many petitions that obviously the congress pays no attention to.

Once I sent a whole list of the King’s crimes, to no avail. They know he is lawless but they don’t want to do a thing about it. They have failed us at every turn.

Well God bless you, Pepperhawk! I think many do not write to their representatives. I have sent emails (and gotten the same kinds of replies you have). I’ve called their offices too, on rarer occasions. I just think if a larger number of us did this it would put the fear of God into them.
Who knows, maybe I’m just delusional. But I know in Pa we have effected the vote against healthcare exchanges just with an organized campaign of tweets!

          tannngl,

I’m so happy for you that your state opted out of the deathcare exchanges. We have a democrat governor and demon attorney general here in KY although the state is not the least bit liberal except for the only 3 big cities of Lexington, Frankfort and Louisville. So our governor opted in. Disgusting.

The demorats made one of those district changes ( I forget at the moment the proper word) and put several of us eastern counties into the liberal county of Lexington. For years, this demonrat was rep, but our districts voted overwhelming against this man and we got a conservative in. Ha, ha, their little trickery backfired against them. We have 2 repub senators, notably Rand Paul (our hero) and a repub rep. My friend Dave who lives in Lexington thought that demonrat could never be ousted. He had been there for years. Then he was shocked because those of us in the eastern district are not like the libs in Lexington, but Dave was quite pleased.

No amount of opposition against these exchanges worked here in Ky with this stupid governor. However, there is a suit against him right now about this very subject. We’ll see how it goes.

          Tannngl,
I think there are momentary times we can effect an issue or situation. They seem to wait for us to turn our backs. Yes, I do think the organized opposition they understand and respect(I use the word loosely), ’cause I’m sure they have no respect for individuals. It is telling that it takes a massive outcry to get their attention.

I’ve gotten the standard replies. Mostly, if I read between the lines it says: “thanks for contacting me on this important issue….but you know I will do as I please… thanks anyway.” 🙂

The last line is exactly what I get too. Thanks for your interest, blah, blah, and yeah, I don’t really care what you think, but keep telling me so I can send this stupid letter back to you. Such hogwash.

Pepp, LOL I know it shouldn’t be funny, but it is. You’re right. I forgot the closer: ” never hesitate to contact me.” — for whatever that’s worth!
