Carter emerges on ceasefire, right on cue

Jimmy Carter calls for recognizing terror group Hamas

Jim Michaels, USA TODAY | August 5, 2014

Former president Jimmy Carter called on the West to recognize the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas as a legitimate “political actor” that represents the bulk of the Palestinian population.

I’m back …just in time.

Carter made the comments in an article he co-wrote with former Irish president Mary Robinson in a new issue of Foreign Policy magazine. It was published as a cease-fire took hold Tuesday after four weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas, which governs Gaza.

In a sharply worded rebuke to Israel, Carter and Robinson said, “There is no humane or legal justification for the way the Israeli Defense Forces are conducting this war.

Israel launched an air and ground offensive into Gaza in response to Hamas militants firing rockets from Gaza into Israel. The Palestinian Health Ministry said nearly 1,900 Palestinians, most civilians, have died in the fighting. Israel said 64 of its soldiers and three civilians were killed.

Hamas, the United Nations and the United States have condemned Israel for strikes on schools used as shelters that have caused many civilian casualties. The United Nations, the United States and Israel have accused Hamas of hiding weapons in schools and other civilian locations.

Carter has emerged in recent years as an outspoken critic of Israel, taking provocative stands on the long-running Mideast conflict.

Following Carter’s advice to recognize Hamas would alienate Israel, undermine Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, a more moderate figure who governs the West Bank, and anger the Egyptians, who helped negotiate a cease-fire between Hamas and Israel, Miller said.

So Jimma is back in the news, surprise surprise! He wasted no time jumping on Israel. But then he just puts voice to Obama’s actions. I’m only surprised ol’ Jimma is not booked solid with all the Antisemitic protests taking place. He must be in high demand. But that’s probably why he had to spread it in a national op-ed, just to get the word out.

Let’s start with the real lack of “humane or legal justification” for Hamas’ actions. Oh he cares nothing about that. I know someone who cannot be wished away.

It’s a sad commentary on the US that even a failed, single term president still commands a captive audience on the world stage. And that does not instill much hope for the post Obama era.

    Bull,

I heard about Carter making some kind of crazy statement but I didn’t know exactly what. I think he has dementia and should be put away in a nursing home.

I am damn sick and tired of his terrorist loving attitude. Just who does he think he is really in condemning Israel? But no condemnation for Hamas. Yes this plays right into the dictator’s hands which are dirtier than hell with his support of every terrorist group there is.

His Antisemitism is coming out in full force and like you I wonder why he isn’t out protesting with the rest of the Jew hating public.

He deliberately ignores that Hamas is using women and children being used as human shields which to me is so obvious and I’m sure it is to you too.

He’s still just a peanut farmer who went nuts growing them. He’s got peanuts for brains, if he has a brain left.

Pepp, well put “went nuts growing them”. LOL true. I’m trying to figure out why this is not offering aid and comfort to and enemies and terrorists ? Sure smells that way.

Bull, IMHO he is offering support and comfort to our enemies. He should be charged with treason, but we know that little law has no teeth anymore. As far as I’m concerned he should be put up against the wall and shot for this treason.

Bull, right. I wish he’d stop getting into the limelight and fade away like most good presidents do. But, no, he has to stick around poking his fingers in people’s eyeballs causing pain all over again. Wasn’t enough he caused us so many bad things while he was prez? Oh, no, this man has no shame whatsoever. And his Jew hatred is showing clear through. He should be condemned for this, not published. Geesh! I swear he has Swiss cheese in his brain besides the peanuts. And the peanuts are pretty doggone small. No gray matter left if there ever was any.
