There is a great and well known song around the world. Who doesn’t like “America the Beautiful”? Its spacious skies and amber waves. Sort of reminds us what we are all about. Hard to imagine any critics of that. Pardon my poetic prose.
Contrast that with talk of the left lately. Anything condemning or putting America down seems popular to the Left. That is noting new, though the level of it and volume is.
Saturday on MSNBC I heard these lines: The goal is to “get rid of the Orange Orangutan.” That spoken by well-known Julianne Malveaux. And it didn’t get a rise or even a gasp from others. No, that passes for normal language today.
There were a lot of things I would have liked to say about Obama. So many things you just could not get away with saying in public. The blowback would be horrendous and always was, if anyone dared to demean “The One.”
Back in 2009, Alan Keyes called Barack Obama a radical communist and it sent outrage meters off the charts. Why and how was that so bad? It was true.
Contrast that with all that has been said about Trump. No comparison. Though it is not just him. Leftists roll their hatred right into an anti-American froth with no parallels. GOP Rep Joe Wilson was nearly ousted for yelling lie in the Obama’s State of the Union address. But we all got a big lecture on decorum and respect for the office.
Now they either boycott President Trump altogether or go for the shock value of calling him every name under the sun. Nothing is ‘off limits.’ No “out of bounds.” Why the change? Because there are no rules now. There is no decorum now. In fact they will even blame their own incivility on Trump.
Exhibit A: Friday evening a protest occurred at a Colorado ICE office, where protestors lowered the American flag and then raised the Mexican flag. And they mocked the America first motto. But why does it have to be America Last with these people? Why has America the Beautiful turned into America the Detestable? #LightsForLiberty ?
No, you cannot dismiss or ignore it. You can’t say it is a few. It is a wide burgeoning movement of anti-American sentiment. The point they are trying to make is totally lost on most people. It is just unbridled vitriol and hatred. And they are making it normal and cool.
When the women’s soccer team does a mockery with the American flag, no one is offended. No one really cared. One teammate at least rescued the flag being trodden under their feet. Other than that it should not have shocked anyone.
Then on Friday, congress held hearings about a problem they refused to do anything about. Shock and outrage for the “immigration” problem – an invasion, a crisis by design. America bad! Shame on the administration, shame on border patrol. Shame on the only guy trying to do something about the problem. Deny the crisis they are perpetuating.
But denial didn’t work, so now demonize everyone else over it. The problem? Congress has turned from being the Constitutional congress, into a body of elected activists. And it matters not whether they are in the majority or not. They operate the same either way.
If they want to be activists, then they don’t have to be in Congress to do that. But they want official recognition, even respect, for what they do. Tearing down history is good.
So, America the beautiful, where is the “fruited plane” and brotherhood? Obviously in the same place. Does God shed his grace on this? They’ve turned protest into the purpose.
Once “A thoroughfare of freedom beat across the wilderness!” Now, how dare a nation’s pride be glorified! We can’t allow that. Patriotism, an ugly beast, must be trodden under thy feet. Until it is beaten. No more beauty; in fact it is sick and ugly, all which has made America great. The spacious skies turned to storm clouds, from sea to shining sea. We are not justified but horrified. What inspiration is there in that? None, which is the whole idea.
There is nothing in common, no respectable past; only a glimpse of a dark future with these people. Their every word is solitude for subterfuge.
In mourning retreat:
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw
Confirm thy soul in self-control
Thy liberty in law!
They no longer believe in power of the people but in the power of the sheeple.
But in a hopeful parting comment:
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
No doubt the author of this beautiful song, Katherine Lee Bates, will probably be next on their enemies’ ban, damn and boycott list. She exemplified something they no longer understand and cannot tolerate. Heroes’ strife be damned in their bonfire.
Maybe they could undo the American Revolution too? May all our success be fruitlessness. Oh for Patriot Dreams. But their retched thoughtfulness continues to shame America.
