After giving it serious thought, there is an admission I could make that some people may understand. I am a kind of ideologue. Now as a rule I don’t like ideologues. But in one way there is something to say for it. Maybe it is not quite conventional but neither am I.
What I mean is I am an anti-Leftist ideologue. Years ago it was just called anti-liberal for shorthand because of what liberals have become, Leftists. That’s too bad they ruined the term liberal. I’m zealous about it to the point of knowing their stands; (evolving as they are) I have read their diatribes, studied their positions and learned to spot them pretty easily. They are fairly easy to stereotype.
However, the old form of liberal – in the classical sense – is gone, or an endangered species.
Some of those leftists may still like to use the term liberal for cover because it sounds so much better. But they are really leftists not the old classical liberals. You would have to go back to see what even liberals were pre-sixties to contrast them.
But since the rise of the new left, old liberaldom with its classical positions and defenses has been squeezed out — rendered extinct. Freedom and libertarian stands are gone now. All that remains in the Democrat Party are Marxist, socialist, sympathizing views. Even they know it when they purge or reform outliers. To a large extent, they don’t try to deny or hide it like they once did into the nineties. In fact, they flaunt it in our faces.
The person who can be most credited with exposing them nationally is Donald Trump. We knew it before but Trump removed any shadow of doubt about it. Their mask is gone.
Occasionally, I recall things they used to say and the cagy way they denied their real positions. Now they just blurt them verbatim like any other Stalinist leftoids. Democrats are at the least fluent in the radical terminology. The commies have entered the fray and are, for the most part, running the show on the left. They used to get offended by those accusations before. Now they chuckle at the charge.
Times really have changed, but what has really changed is the identity of the left. The new left has turned into the old commie platform with all the bells and whistles one expects. Only the denial about it is gone, replaced by pride with an exuberant arrogance.
Call me that type of ideologue and I will gladly wear the label.
