Where are they now, Never Trumpers

Any cursory review of the election would leave many unanswered questions about those who absorbed the spotlight as the many, the proud… the anti-Trumpers.

What happened to them and where are they now? Well, I just saw that the prominent Never-Trump leader Bill Kristol will be stepping back, or down, in his career. Now Stephen Hayes is stepping up to be editor-in-chief of the failing Weekly Standard. Hayes is another anti-Trumper. They are calling the shakeup lots of things, but Kristol is out.

Hayes will certainly continue in the legacy of denial, after Kristol, while the Weekly Standard seeks to rebuild its once-lucrative brand. Put some lipstick on that pig.
The Hill

Bill Kristol is stepping down as editor-in-chief of The Weekly Standard, more than two decades after he co-founded the conservative publication.

“It’s good,” Kristol told CNN on Monday. “Here at The Weekly Standard, we’ve always been for regime change.”

Steve Hayes, the publication’s senior editor, will take over for Kristol.

But Kristol won’t be leaving the stage, just stepping away from Weekly Standard. We know he can’t leave the limelight. His condescending elitism won’t allow it.

Mitt Romney, what’s left to say about him? He was in the running for Secretary of State, then the unthinkable loss of not getting picked. After all he did to oppose Trump every public way he could, he tried to shift his hatred in a few tweets.

First, were all the attack(s)… plenty of them:

What he “knows?”

There was the one after election:

Then there was the one after failing to get the nomination he wanted:

But no apology or thanks to Trump for considering him — with all his many warts.

Then there is this reversal from staunch anti-Trumper, Erick Erickson. His radio show must be in a nose dive lately. But never fear, he now says we should give Trump a chance. A little late, don’t you think you waited long enough?

Erick Erickson: I’m gonna give Trump a chance (no, I’m not a sellout)

During the 2016 election, I was adamantly opposed to Donald Trump. Much of the media cited a piece I wrote in mid-February planting my flag against Trump as one of the major pieces to spark the #NeverTrump movement.

I wrote in that piece that if the GOP went with Trump that the party was not only going to lose the White House, but see devastation down ballot. All the polling showed it. The polling had been right during the primaries. Trump was the one guy consistently ahead in the polls and the one guy who consistently could not beat Hillary. The general election polling showed the same.

I, and the polling, were completely wrong. So were a lot of other people. After the election I wrote that those of us who were so completely wrong about the election should exercise some humility. If we got that much wrong, the odds are we got a lot of other stuff wrong, too. Consequently, I thought the day after the election and still think that we owe Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt.

This does not mean I am now on the Trump team. I still have concerns about Trump.

How generous of Erick to give Trump “the benefit of the doubt” now…..when all other opposition has failed. He tries to blame his rabid, anti-Trump stance on earlier polls.

Count Erick as “not selling out”….
he’s selling up, to anyone who still believes anything he says.

Then there are the Obamas, those priceless gems of slobbering elitism. Michelle says she may be leaving the White House but not the public stage. Surprise! Right after she tells us we have no hope. Barack Obama plans to go nowhere. He told us that.

In fact, they rented a mansion down the street from the White House where he will continue his radical activism by running a shadow government, according to insider reports. I’m sure any Obama residence will have plenty of room for his Iranian adviser, Valerie Jarrett. I give Obama the award to represent the anti-Trump opposition.

You don’t believe Hillary Clinton is going anywhere either, do you? She’ll have her own oppositional organization. And when stars align, some spectacular things will happen.

Does this mean that Erickson along with Hayes, Kristol, Obama, Hillary and all those outspoken others will be on the same page at some point opposing Trump? Look for that; but how they parse their active roles in the coalition will stand reason on its head.

It would seem all the anti-Trumpers are not really going away, just lining up to posture themselves in public and media. But their opposition doesn’t change. They are just finding more creative ways to channel it.

Lou Dobbs tracking the estabo GOP

Lou Dobbs – The Horrible Three-Headed Monster Of The GOP Elite

It’s Horrific – Three Headed Monster Of The Republican Establishment
Posted on June 1, 2016 by Rick Wells

It’s a horrible thing, the three headed monster that Lou Dobbs says is “lurking within the GOP establishment.” It sounds downright disgusting from his description, a hybrid of Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and Bill Kristol. He notes “none of them is particularly aggressive, at least publicly, they’re more passive aggressive. They’re how the party of no was first formed, in fact.”

Dobbs continues, “Trump today slammed Kristol as a loser in his new conference,” point to an interview with Sean Hannity in which he says Kristol is just trying to sell copies of his failing magazine. Trump asked, “Who would do it? Look, it’s a guaranteed loss, you can’t even get on in Texas now because they missed their deadline and now they’re missing other deadlines. And all he’s doing, I guess, is trying to get publicity for his failing magazine, I imagine.”

Dobbs points out the weak track record of Kristol when it comes to predicting political winners and losers, including the prediction that Hussein Obama would not defeat Hillary Clinton in a single Democrat primary in 2008 and a Romney victory in 2012.

Dobbs notes that Kristol’s boss, billionaire Philip Anshutz, who owns the Weekly Standard, generally tries to remain out of the spotlight, but he’s stepped into it with both feet on this one. He’s donated over $1 million to establishment GOP candidates this cycle but Dobbs can’t imagine Anshutz either permitting or dispatching Kristol on this fools’ errand.

In response to Trump’s comments about Kristol, he replied, “I’ve won some and I’ve lost some but one thing I’ve always tried not to be is a roaring jackass.” Dobbs adds, “In my opinion, Kristol has obviously failed in the latter regard and in recent years he’s been almost always been wrong in his choice of candidates and indeed public policies.”

Wrongheadedness,” says Dobbs, “doesn’t deter elites like Kristol, all uncomfortable with the democratic reality that votes do matter and that majorities and not special interests, not even really rich elite interests rule.”

Dobbs adds, “And they fear Trump mightily, precisely because he’s likely to make the establishment very uncomfortable for a very long time.”

Could it be as simple as Trump says, he’s “trying to get publicity for his failing magazine?” I don’t know. However, it is clear that Kristol is willing to risk it all, or what is left of it, to oppose Trump. A losing cause for himself and potentially the country.

What makes a person that driven to obsession? He has said he didn’t mind supporting Hillary or if she won. He can try to run from that. So Kristol is not about winning, he is about Trump losing. That his subscribers flee, so what? Apparently his establishment ties are stronger and more important. Love for country? Please.

Like Dobbs said, Kristol’s pick record is not good. And then he has been palling around, scheming with Romney for months — with Romney’s record. Ryan’s record is confirmation. But if Trump would lose, they can all come back in 2020 for another round.

Here is another one for the estabo record from Rick Wells:

Independent candidate talk

Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol has now come out, again, to say he wants a 3rd person, independent candidate. He suggested someone like Nikki Haley.

So he wants an anti-Trump, anti-Hillary candidate. We could call it the ‘AA Tcket.’

Just days ago, Kristol went on Steve Malzberg’s show to declare he is not sure on #NeverTrump. Later, he said he was just joking and seriously #NeverTrump.

And now it is on. The Gateway Pundit reports a private meeting took place between Romney and Kristol, at Bill’s request.

William Kristol, the longtime editor of the Weekly Standard magazine and a leading voice on the right, met privately with the 2012 nominee on Thursday afternoon to discuss the possibility of launching an independent bid, potentially with Romney as its standard-bearer.

He came pretty close to being elected president, so I thought he may consider doing it, especially since he has been very forthright in explaining why Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton should not be president of the United States,” Kristol said in a phone interview Friday, during which he confirmed that he and Romney had a “little meeting in Washington.”

Well, the funny part is that Romney specified he did not want Trump or Hillary to get elected. But by running, he would have a direct hand in getting Hillary into the White House. If he won’t do it, they will find another stool-pigeon to affect that outcome.

Maybe Hillary’s campaign could even coordinate with the Kristol Klan?
