Institutional Failure

We no longer have the luxury of debating serious concepts or ideas, but can only opine on current political reality. As long as we still can anyway.

But this column or next just might be the last, at this critical stage. Who knows? That is the political reality of the time. Just call this an SOS to the future.

Odd how America was always standing up for those timeless principles and freedoms like speech or basic civil liberties. Not anymore. That is the stuff of yesteryear now.

All of this in our current reality is due to institutional failure. No, it is not just a president’s dictate or even Congress’s decrees; it takes more than that to really set our country off the irreversible edge. Our institutions have a big and necessary role in that condition, not only governmental institutions but private or non-governmental institutions.

Right now they are screaming for us to jump, “don’t look back. Hurry up!”

Who are they? Well, media for one has a big role. But there are plenty others like policy centers, research labs to big corporations to technology, universities, education. All working hand and glove in a concerted, malicious way against civil liberties of people is enough to throw in the towel on society — as if government failure and corruption were not enough of a problem.

But all operating in a concerted effort, until you have something that makes George Orwell blush in his grave. And snark is substituted for substance in defense of what they do. So what is the answer to that? Well, we don’t know because we probably were never to this pinnacle before. Sadly, we just don’t know.

Institutions are to society what sin is to mankind. It is the cancerous rot that can destroy the body from inside out. If left corrupt and untreated, it can unleash a ticking clock on the mantle of freedom and all we hold dear. Or you could call that the glue or ligaments that hold us all together. And what a number both can do on us in a short amount of time.

So now a first amendment case to defend one’s self is no longer an acceptable option?

Cancel Culture In Motion

A story appeared in the NY Post of a Democrat district leader who resigned her elected position after making comments on the source of the virus in “anti-China” posts online.

So she resigned but it was not enough.

NY Post
Brooklyn district leader resigns after backlash to anti-China comments

By Carl Campanile | January 29, 2021

Lori Maslow, an elected district leader and ex-vice chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, resigned from office Thursday after several mayoral candidates threatened to boycott a Sunday forum the county party was sponsoring over her anti-Asian comments.

Maslow wrote “I can’t even look at Chinese food” during an anti-China social media rant on Twitter last month, while posting a link to a news article about Chinese tariffs on US goods.

“We’re sick of buying from China. They did this to us. They lied to us. And yes, Trump played outside role as well. I, for one, will never, ever buy anything made in China again. Join me,” Maslow said.

She then added “I can’t even look at Chinese food,” to the end of the tweet, which was deleted, but not before a reader snapped a screen grab.

Following thundering criticism, Maslow apologized and had already resigned her post as a party vice chairwoman. But it wasn’t enough for critics.

Opposition to her comments became a more serious problem after several mayoral candidates — including Andrew Yang, whose parents emigrated from Taiwan, city Comptroller Scott Stringer and Maya Wiley, among others — said they wouldn’t participate in the Brooklyn Democratic Party’s Sunday mayoral forum moderated by NY1 political anchor Errol Louis. even though Brooklyn Democratic Party chairwoman Rodneyse Bichotte condemned Maslow’s remarks.

Maslow, in a heartfelt and bitter statement of resignation Thursday, indicated she didn’t want to be a liability for the Brooklyn Democratic Party leadership.

“I ask that my statements not be attributed to the Brooklyn Democratic Leadership — I was the writer, not the party leadership. My constituents elected me, and I am responsible to them,” said Maslow, a veteran public school teacher and Marine Park resident who represents the 41st Assembly District.

But Maslow complained she was railroaded by left-wing extremists in the party engaging in cancel culture, and feared for her safety.

“Since this faction began the online harassment and vilification, I have received threatening messages. My family is very concerned for my safety,” she said.

“Extremism in this country is not limited to right wing militias. Threats are nothing to ignore. That is why I will be stepping down effective immediately,” Maslow said.

The Kings County Democratic County Committee has been beset by factionalism and litigation over its operations amid the coronavirus pandemic.#

I mean she did resign but they kept coming. Notice what she said at the end. “Extremism in this country is not limited to right wing militias.” Give her credit for the gesture.

I don’t think China could have done a better job. And Demo candidates engaging in it.

Revision Agenda Races Forward

In only a week since the events at the capitol, the left has rolled out its strategy of revision buried in all the reactions of faux outrage and sympathy. I say faux because it is more(or less) than genuine outrage of events.

“My country, ’tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims’ pride,
From ev’ry mountainside
Let freedom ring!” — America

The outrage is severe; the reactions are fierce and even worse. The left’s Wokeism has responded in force. Cleansing talk is mainstreamed and silencing agendas already begun. Democrats managed to hang it on Trump and his supporters — not just those culpable.

It is the broadest blame possible, an entire political party and its members.

But imagine if there was that same reaction to the violence we saw all last year? It didn’t work that way. Actually, they are using these events last week to revise and bury all the Left’s violence and riot platform from last year. The season of revision is upon us.

Remember too that while that rioting and violence was going on through 2020, the numbers identifying with BLM and the left were going up. Corporate endorsements rose faster than corn in the summer. Money flooded into their coffers. In fact they had so much of it they didn’t know where to spend it. Virtue signaling, with their cause, was in vogue

Also they established funds for the rioters, looters, and lawbreakers. At the same time they pushed an abolish the police agenda. It took the form of defunding cops. (which they would later deny) We were all put on notice to agree with the protestors and what they were doing or else. Many did.

And of course it was all used in their political agenda to feed the Democrat machine for 2020 elections. That is the point of everything to Democrats, politics. (not safety, security, jobs, even a pandemic) “Never let a crisis go to waste.” They also used COVID lucratively for political gain. Deaths were only ammunition and political fodder.

In all that, their Wokeism played a huge part. Can’t shut that down.

Wokeism is really another form of radicalization. It is not a complete ideology, yet, though they are probably working on that. It is part of the Left and that ideology. But it is rising. It is merely another tool by which they carry out their leftist ideology en masse.

Meanwhile, they sprinkled rhetoric about unity and division. No one really challenged that. We all knew it wasn’t true, Division was the real mission.

When Biden and allies talk about unity or healing the country, what do they mean? Their idea of unity is having no opposition. Healing means conformity.

You do not have to subscribe to Democrats’ ideology, just to their political agenda. And that is the spot much of America is finding itself in the first month of 2021. They are grasping at that and going along at a fast pace.

Thus, by doing their part to conform to the Democrat/Left political agenda, they are virtue signaling to the left. It is actually conceding or submission. Either will do for the Left. And it keeps that radicalized system from turning on them. So it buys protection from the mob.

How else can you get exemption from the radicalized mob? Well there is only one way, conformity with their political agenda. It isn’t really designed to include dissent. But the goal is no opposition. That’s the state of healing.

Through the latest reactions from corporations to golf tournaments, what did we learn? This is the new McCarthyism. Blacklisting is fashionable now. Younger people may not be as familiar with the concept, but they are learning how to employ it at record speed. They got the business sector to buy in to it: big banks, conglomerates, social media, even corporate journalism and media offer to help enforce or police it.

This is One Party rule, cancel culture reigns the supreme means, institutionalized.
Any objections? I didn’t think so…. now next order of business.

All of their latest antics only used to overshadow and bury what the left has been doing in 2020, or how we got to this point. The race is on.

Let It Rip or Rip It Up

I’m not sure how other people measure their disgust on the sliding scale but I know how I qualify my own. It has only been tested in recent events.

This week I had a short phone conversation with an acquaintance I’ve known for years. Everything was fine until at the end the person said I just hope we can do what we need to do not to re-elect this guy and he has to be voted out of office. That’s it, nothing about who else was running. Just throw Trump out of the White House.

I restrained from politics with this person, as I always have. It’s pointless. However, I could not resist suggesting, “careful what you wish for.” What do you mean” came a predictable response. I said “that alternative could be much worse.” So the conversation ended on that note with the person wondering what it meant. I thought it was fairly clear.

But isn’t that the point? They never consider alternatives or anything else for that matter. They know what they want. I could say what I want, too, but what good does that do?

That is the way it is with many people. No reasoned approach on what gets them to their conclusion. You can’t really have a dialogue with that. So I decided maybe I would put it in writing rather than waste my time. It is clear the person did not want to hear opposition.

It reminds me of the cancel culture. All they know is they want someone out, or marginalized from society. Somehow that goal fits their agenda and satisfies them. What a horrible way to view things, just cancel anything you don’t like or agree with.

Where does that power come from? It is part of mob mentality, meaning their voice and desire outweighs you or your views. And in the end, they cannot tolerate your view, belief or whatever – or you personally. It must go.

Now with the presidential race, they want to go backward and return to some euphoric Obama-Biden days. But the rest of us made it through and survived those years.

No, it was not easy. That was no picnic.

But we didn’t have a coup against the sitting president; no special counsel investigation of him; no one raking over of all his personal records; no public boycotts of anything to do with him; we didn’t prevent him from doing the job. And there was no impeachment designed and plotted from day one to oust him from office.

No riots and burning buildings with tens of thousands of decoys marching in the street. No attacks on Obama supporters. No band of people within government secretly working to undermine Obama’s administration. No courts lodging edicts to stop him. No press and media attacking him and Biden nonstop to delegitimize his election or presidency.

No sedition in the form of “resistance” to overthrow him.. No debate about the use of the 25th amendment to have him removed. No one telling people to “get in their faces” of Obama supporters, create a crowd and tell them they are not welcome in public.

No constant calls for impeachment from house members. No ripping up his State of the Union Speech in Congress. No games about preventing him from giving his SOTUS. No power plays to remove powers of the Constitutional presidency. No FBI executing phony FISA warrants and spying on him as a candidate and then as president. No surveillance of Obama’s team, and to frame him as a traitor to America.

No official of the DOJ refusing to follow and enforce executive orders or laws. No agenda to prevent President Obama from seeking or hiring people. No secretly telling other countries not to cooperate or work with the sitting president. No conspiring against him. No undermining of Obama as commander-in-chief within the military or Pentagon – or in the ranks. No working to undermine US military objectives by officials or former diplomats.

That would be only a starting point of the differences and what we endured for eight years as opposed to what the Left does now. They had their chance, wasn’t it enough?
