Denial Is Done

After giving it serious thought, there is an admission I could make that some people may understand. I am a kind of ideologue. Now as a rule I don’t like ideologues. But in one way there is something to say for it. Maybe it is not quite conventional but neither am I.

What I mean is I am an anti-Leftist ideologue. Years ago it was just called anti-liberal for shorthand because of what liberals have become, Leftists. That’s too bad they ruined the term liberal. I’m zealous about it to the point of knowing their stands; (evolving as they are) I have read their diatribes, studied their positions and learned to spot them pretty easily. They are fairly easy to stereotype.

However, the old form of liberal – in the classical sense – is gone, or an endangered species.

Some of those leftists may still like to use the term liberal for cover because it sounds so much better. But they are really leftists not the old classical liberals. You would have to go back to see what even liberals were pre-sixties to contrast them.

But since the rise of the new left, old liberaldom with its classical positions and defenses has been squeezed out — rendered extinct. Freedom and libertarian stands are gone now. All that remains in the Democrat Party are Marxist, socialist, sympathizing views. Even they know it when they purge or reform outliers. To a large extent, they don’t try to deny or hide it like they once did into the nineties. In fact, they flaunt it in our faces.

The person who can be most credited with exposing them nationally is Donald Trump. We knew it before but Trump removed any shadow of doubt about it. Their mask is gone.

Occasionally, I recall things they used to say and the cagy way they denied their real positions. Now they just blurt them verbatim like any other Stalinist leftoids. Democrats are at the least fluent in the radical terminology. The commies have entered the fray and are, for the most part, running the show on the left. They used to get offended by those accusations before. Now they chuckle at the charge.

Times really have changed, but what has really changed is the identity of the left. The new left has turned into the old commie platform with all the bells and whistles one expects. Only the denial about it is gone, replaced by pride with an exuberant arrogance.

Call me that type of ideologue and I will gladly wear the label.

The Democrats Lost Big Tonight. Why Obama Should Double Down

Katrina vanden Heuvel on November 4, 2014 | The Nation

If I were advising the White House right now, I would encourage President Obama to take advantage of the end of this year’s election cycle—the next fifty or so days—to immediately try to change the subject, in a big way.

The Obama administration should act right away to use its executive powers to take steps to deal with long-ignored issues that need to be dealt with for the good of the nation.

This cannot be done quietly. To change the media narrative, issues acted upon will have to be controversial enough to dominate the news. President Obama should embrace good progressive public policy while expecting—indeed, hoping for—a massive outcry from the wing-nut section of the GOP.

Controversy is not the enemy here. And issue clarity—or issue polarization—can be helpful, if the administration seizes the initiative and chooses public policy issues on which to fight.

The president should go big right now, undertaking a quick series of high-profile executive actions on issues that the Republican House has not acted upon, and will never pass. President Obama should be very visible, with photo ops and speeches and social media and grassroots backup and appearances on Between Two Ferns, moving hard and fast from one executive action to the next. They see it, in an ideological perspective, as radically as Obama does. So nothing changes. In fact, apply more speed, controversy, force, unilateralism, and abuse than before.

They want a full-blown dictator — Chavez or Castro style. Anything short of that will not suffice. The idea is to be as deliberate and unilateral as possible. They see it as a way of rallying their base. You might call it all out war.

Well America, now you know what the Left thinks of you and your vote. “Elections have consequences” … really! … Is the GOP ready?
