This is probably against my better interest but I’ll say it anyway.
[Dave suggested I post something we don’t necessarily on which prompted this]
Stay in the UN — like what are the options? Be careful what you ask for.
I will not apologize for the UN or its idiotic behavior, even evils, but I don’t think we should bail out of it. If not for us and our vote, Israel would really have no vote or allies.
They’d be standing in a world minus their one ally. And it may even make much of the world happy to see us get out. Just saying.
And we still need to have what influence we have in the body and getting out would not do us any big favors. Funding it by their lonesome and moving it somewhere else might be a challenge for them, but they would probably find some way, with their miscreant connections.
While that might make a few people mad, I don’t see the alternative as too attractive.
Here’s an example:
A quote from Brookings Institute:
Just three years ago, the United States absented itself from the world’s principal diplomatic forum for human rights because it felt it couldn’t get its way on every issue. As a result, it ceded important ground to the very governments it criticized for their human rights practices, leaving our closest allies, including Israel, and human rights defenders around the world exposed.
Now, after two years of active engagement as a member of the Human Rights Council, the United States can show real results that prove that staying and fighting for our core values is worth the effort, as I noted in my testimony to the House Foreign Affairs Committee this month.
